Agim Zajmi was born in Tirana on November 28, 1936. He studied stage arts in Saint Petersburg. After graduating in 1961, he began his career as a stage designer at the Theatre of Opera and Ballet, later working mainly at the National Theatre, while also creating scenography for theatres in Kosovo and Skopje.

Most Albanian and international productions staged at the National Theatre were created by the talented painter and stage designer Agim Zajmi. He also made a significant contribution to costume design. With a deep knowledge of Albanian ethnography, he brought to the National Theatre not only theatrical spaces, but also costumes and details that rendered Albanian life with striking realism.
As a professor at the Academy of Arts in Tirana, Zajmi trained generations of future painters with the patience and simplicity that defined him. As a painter, he exhibited his work in France, Italy, England, Greece, Turkey, Austria, and beyond.
Some of these works are preserved in the collection of the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana, as well as in private collections around the world. Agim Zajmi passed away in Tirana on November 3, 2013.
