Carmen, one of the most celebrated operas in the international repertoire, holds a significant place in the history of Albanian opera. Its first staging in Albania took place on April 5, 1962, marking an important moment in the development of the national lyrical scene.
The production brought together leading artists of the time, under the musical direction of Mustafa Krantja and stage direction by Mihal Luarasi. The scenography was created by Agim Zajmi, whose work contributed to shaping the visual identity of this landmark production.
This staging reflects the ambition of the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet to engage with major works of the international canon while developing a distinct local artistic language.
