Agim Zajmi immortalized one of the most prominent figures and patriots of the Albanian National Renaissance. Just a few days ago, the first newspaper in the Albanian language, founded by Jeronim De Rada, was commemorated.

This portrait dedicated to Jeronim De Rada, painted in oil on canvas, is housed in the National Gallery of Arts.

In the absence of historical images and photographs of the Arbëresh writer and publicist, the painter succeeded in creating more than one portrait, making it one of the most visited works.

Jeronim De Rada (November 29, 1814 – February 28, 1903), widely known as the “father of Albanian journalism,” founded and established the first Albanian newspaper, L’Albanese d’Italia. Through his knowledge and rare talent, De Rada devoted himself to the national cause, contributing to the awakening of the Albanian National Renaissance.

The first Albanian media in history, founded on February 23, 1848 in Italy, continued its noble mission of preserving the Albanian language and culture abroad, carrying the name of Jeronim De Rada.
